Airplanes and New York City and Cardiologists Oh My!

This coming New Year's Eve will mark our 5-year wedding anniversary (go us!). We got married in New York City on NYE and vowed to go back for our anniversary in 5 years. I love the city in general, but this time we decided to go just before Christmas instead of going at New Year's with all the crazy people.

We flew in on a Wednesday and had a turbulent landing due to the immense wind, but we were still excited! We got our luggage, hit the exit doors, and immediately realized we were not equipped enough for the cold we were experiencing. On top of the cold, the wind was excruciating standing in a line outside the airport for 20 minutes to get a taxi. Carter and I aren't the most social people, but I was so cold that when they asked if anyone wanted to share a taxi with someone going the same route and skip the line I raised my hand. Of course this was met with a death glare from my husband and I slowly lowered my arm back down.

We finally got a taxi, said a quick prayer (if you have ever ridden in a NYC taxi you know the need for a prayer), and we were on our way. We made it through the city around rush hour and it started to snow as soon as we got to the hotel. We made a quick trip to Northface to get a few things and we were set. We walked and explored the streets around us that first night and then headed back to the hotel so we could be rested up for the long day I had planned for Thursday.

Thursday morning the streets were filled with snow and I was in heaven! I hate the cold, but I always say if I have to be cold then there better be snow- and there was! It was perfect. We headed to the 9/11 Memorial for an early-access tour and found out it was delayed because of the snow. We found a nearby Starbucks and warmed up with some coffee while we were waiting. This was the coolest Starbucks I have ever been in because there was a line to order and then the pick up area was on a different side from the registers so people weren't backed up in the same place. Another favorite thing was the bathrooms! I think it's a girl thing to be able to appreciate a good bathroom, but it was amazing. To be honest, I do not understand the whole gender specific bathrooms- why can't all bathrooms be like this?
